Lakyn Platt
Children’s Ministries Director
Lakyn Platt has been a member of the Central Church family since childhood. She officially joined the church staff in September of 2018 as our Children’s Ministries Director. Prior to joining the church staff Lakyn has been actively involved in her church and community as well as participating in SC District events, including TNT @ TNU and 4 years on the SC District Impact Team. Lakyn married her high school sweet heart Tyler in January of 2013 and they have a beautiful daughter Kinslee born July 2017. They also share their home with 3 dogs, Kyah and Snickers the Dachshunds and Kaine their most recent rescue Doberman. Lakyn is a huge animal advocate and has been working in the veterinary medical field since January 2014.

Lakyn says, “I lovee everything about veterinary medicine. I loved my job and the role I played for many years. God just had different plans for me and redirected my path and focus”.

Lakyn has some personal experiences with ministry and has seen first hand the way the Lord moves. She comes from a missionary and pastoral family and is the proud grand daughter of David and Gloria Spires who pastor a neighboring Nazarene church in Cayce, SC. They were also previous missionaries in Cape Town, South Africa for several years. The Lord called Lakyn into ministry one Sunday during a morning service lead by Pastor Brent Walker. “It was just a typical service, nothing unusual. My heart was heavy and I felt that I needed a change. I needed to be filled. Pastor Brent mentioned the need of a children’s ministries leader and it was like I was struck by lightening, I can’t really explain it. I was so sure and I knew that this is what I was going to do. I didn’t know how but I knew I was going to do it.”

A few fun facts about Lakyn: She loves everything outdoors and enjoys just spending time with her family. She is more of a mountains person over beach. She prefers salty over sweet. She loves Gamecock Football. She is more of a dog person but has recently warmed up to cats even though she is extremely allergic. She has lived in the same 10 mile radius since birth.

A personal message from Lakyn: I love this church and I love this community. Watching a child’s face light up while they are learning God’s word is priceless. Our children are not the church of the future, rather they are the church of today. I am looking forward to seeing God’s hand move through me as your ministries leader and for what the Lord has in store for your children.
